Chris Curtin organized a successful Double Ultra Triathlon to raise funds for the RMHC Childhood Cancer Fund
We thank our community and all sponsors for your kind support to our athlete and making his dream come true.
Our sponsorsOn Saturday, April 1, 2023, athlete Chris Curtin embarked on an extreme endurance adventure to raise funds for the RMHC Childhood Cancer Fund. The event, known as a Double Ultra Triathlon, consisted of a 7.6K swim, 360K bike ride, and 62.4K run that is done in 36 hours and without interruption.
The event also had a special intention to honor the memory of Chris’s mother, Judith “TuTu” Curtin, who passed away from cancer. The chosen fundraising amount of Nafl 22.000,00 was inspired by the Hawaiian word “Tutu” (two, two, 2, 2) which means Grandma. With Chris being born in Hawaii, it was natural for Judi’s grandkids to call her Tutu, which holds a special meaning for him.
What started out on Saturday April 1st at 1 pm at Brisa Do Mar Caracasbaai, was nothing short of extraordinary !
It was not an easy endeavor in itself, and Chris faced additional challenges, such as heavy rainfall and strong winds during the bike ride in the early hours of Sunday that delayed the bike ride by more than three hours. Throughout the event , he had a group of friends and fans cheering him on to make this special mission come true.
On Sunday, April 2, 2023, he made every effort to complete the 84.4K run, but ended an amazing run just short of 22 K’s. For safety reasons, the team was forced to stop his run at 62.4K .
Chris has been mentally preparing for this extreme event for a long time, and his motivation behind it is to raise awareness about the importance of children’s health. He believes that in the face of adversity, one must keep fighting, and he wants to symbolize this through the event. The way he worked for this cause is definitely something to be proud of
